Convenors Report for 2005 Tocal Fleece
Show This being my first attempt at organising an alpaca show, I would like to extend thanks to Paul, Evelyn, Julienne, Wayne and several others for advice along the way. Sponsorship was a difficult task which had to be rebuilt since our previous major sponsorship had been discontinued. Thanks to Paul for organising major sponsorship with Farmers Warehouse, to Evelyn for arranging the straw from Kirkwoods and to Emma for Wyong Petstock. Castlereagh Feeds, Southern Tablelands and New England Fibre Testing also came to the party. Not to be forgotten are the various breeders who contributed to financial sponsorship without very much prodding. So, Thank You, (in no particular order) El Prado, Glen-Das, Charlicia, Shakarah Park, Tanglewood, Bumble Hill, Kia Ora View and Surilox. The Panels were transported by Glen Rennie, Wayne & myself. In order to reduce costs, we used our own tent which was erected and dismantled by Ark Party Hire with a saving in this department of approx. $600. Another reason for using an outside supplier is the total lack of member resources to assist in setup. Evelyn, Madeleine, Emma and Bill Plunkett assisted with the set up when tables were delivered late, and judging was efficiently completed before dark, in spite of harassment by a non-involved member. Thanks go to Evelyn and the few stewards for handling the fleece entries, catalogue and postage - this is a huge job. Thanks to Evelyn and Narelle in hosting the judge overnight. Advertising in the Tocal insert in The Land was achieved with a half page editorial. Alpacas are always a popular drawcard at Tocal and other shows. So a BIG thank you to the following studs for providing animals and taking time to talk to the public - Bumble Hill, El Prado, Jacamer, Mandahlong and Yango Ridge Alpacas. I found this (Spinners) a frustrating component to organise as several spinners I approached, including almost all our regulars, had prior engagements for the Tocal weekend and a keen volunteer had to withdraw at short notice. Thanks to Ann Thomas and local Fanny Byrne for ably filling the gap. Fanny is a lovely older lady who so thoroughly enjoyed our display and company that she came back for a second day.
