LOCAL BREEDER NETWORKS The Central Coast and Hunter region is huge, stretching from Gosford to Armidale, Bonville to Meriwa, and including the major centres such as Taree, Maitland, Singleton, and Tamworth. To overcome some of the problems caused by the geographical size of the region and bring a local focus, local coordinators have volunteered to help organise networks of local breeders in various areas of the Region. Each area is around the size of Wales (or the Sydney region!) and generally takes around 3 hours to drive across. Each of the 5 areas is roughly equal in the number of breeders in it. At a high level, the local coordinators are responsible for bringing together alpaca breeders in their areas, organising local meetings, and bringing the views of members to OGMs that members in their area can't get to. A full list of their responsibilities will be posted here soon. As agreed at the August 2006 OGM, although some of the local coordinators sit on the committee, the organisation and decision making authority in the region remains with the Regional Committee and their delegates (such as show organisers) and there is currently no proposal for (or question of) any breakup of the region (if you see the term "breakup" in minutes or agendas, it's just referring to distribution of actions). Some of the areas have established their own web pages showing local events, those are linked below.
Give your area coordinator a call, tell them your thoughts, suggestions, etc and get involved! |
