The Central Coast and Hunter Region is one of the fourteen regions of the Australian Alpaca Association. Its southern most tip starts at the Hawkesbury River (just north of Sydney) and extends north following the line of the coast, through the Central Coast and Newcastle and up to just south of Coffs Harbour. Inland it stretches to include the New England towns of Armidale and Tamworth as well as the Hunter Valley (Map).

Just as we range over hills, valleys and plains, our members range from hobby farmers and lifestyle owners, to much larger studs with many alpaca roaming in the paddocks. However, we all share the common bond that is the alpaca, whether it be the Suri or Huacaya.

This region has earned its great reputation for outstanding breeding by the exhibiting and winning of many shows around the country. We are proud to say that we can boast Supreme Champions and Champions in both animal and fleece classes.

Our region is also the convener of two shows each year; New England (Wool Expo) (Easter), and The Spring Show (at Wyong Racecourse in August (this year)). We also run displays at Flora Fest and at the Tocal Field Days and an annual sale day; Alpacas on Parade (June Long Weekend).

You have to have pictures of Alpacas on the front page of an Alpaca website!

The regional newsletter is the "Alpaca Hmmm...", which is published four times year. Advertising is discounted for regional members, but is welcomed from anywhere. The newsletter can be found in electronic form on the website (here), but subscriptions are available as well (contact the Editor).

Next Meeting

The next Regional Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 20th July 2008 at a venue to be advised. Kick off is at 11am, (please arrive by 10:30am so we can start promptly as per the AAA Rules). Documents are available on the Meetings page. Please note that the date in the Alpaca Hmmm... is incorrect.

Members wishing to have issues discussed at the meeting should forward details of their agenda item, a corresponding motion, and background information no less than 22 days prior to the date of the OGM to the regional secretary. Members with questions about financial matters should submit their questions in writing and will receive a response within 7 days of the OGM.

Announcements and Reminders

Stud and For Sale Register Reset

In line with the email from the Alpaca Hmmm... editor, the stud male and for sale registers have been reset. To apply for listing in the registers in the Alpaca Hmmm... and online, please fill in the for sale or stud register request..

Website Updates

As the website gets updated independently of other regional publications, if you spot any mistakes please let Les and the secretary know. We're only human and mistakes do happen!

Buy the Marquee

At the August 27th 2006 OGM the region voted to sell the marquee, which is not being used due to the fact that it is too small for our shows and other events. The marquee is to be offered for sale to any interested member for the sum of $1000. Please contact the the secretary if you're interested.

Advertising and Articles for the Next Alpaca Hmmm...

Articles (including births and other regional news) must be received by the new editor by the 6th June. Advertising for Autumn's Alpaca Hmmm... must be received by the new editor by 20th March 2007!

Stud, Fleece, and For Sale Registers

Would everyone please check their listings in the stud, fleece, and for sale registers to make sure that they are correct and that the animals concerned are still available. Updates to Louise and Les please
